ATTORNEY BENJAMIN CRUMP SOCIAL JUSTICE INSTITUTE

My “Brooklyn” Fatherhood Program

“social justice is equal rights and opportunities in all aspects of society”

“I still remember when my daughter Brooklyn was first born and I looked into my beautiful mahogany princess’s eyes. I understood right then that I would be the first male figure that she would encounter in life and I accepted the duty of making sure that she understood what a responsible father’s role was in the nurturing of a princess. I accepted this sacred honor as none that I had ever engaged in before.

Inherent in this duty is the obligation and the utter enthusiasm of sharing with Brooklyn how beautiful God made her and to shower her with love and affection to know how valuable she is in every way. And that no matter what, she will always be a priority in my life because God chose me to be her nurturer, her protector, her provider, her educator, and her pillow of support for my entire natural life.

I look forward to her growing from this little creature into the beautiful, intelligent, resourceful woman that will contribute to the world in ways that I cannot even fathom knowing that my daughter, like all children, was born into this world with a destiny that was endowed by our Creator for a specific purpose.

So as I lay in bed at night, before I fall asleep, I think about what I can do to make this a better world, not in a self-serving, materialistic aspect, but as a devoted care-taker who wants nothing more than to leave this world a better place for my daughter.”  ….Attorney Benjamin Crump

A girl’s father is one of the most influential people in her life, from infant to toddler to tween to teen, he plays a large impact on his little girl’s development into a strong, confident woman. In has been researched and proven that a father’s influence in his daughter’s life shapes her self-esteem, self-image, confidence and opinions of men.

The BCSJI recognizes that not all little girls are blessed to have the unconditional love and support from their Dad, like Brooklyn. Unfortunately, for many, it is quite the opposite.

Today’s society has created an atmosphere that has forced young women, from early childhood, to endure sexist, misogynistic, disrespectful images, beliefs and attitudes that have permeated all aspects of our culture. For a young girl, these images can lead to decreased internal value leading to poor decision-making and at times unfortunate consequences. Fighting to overcome these images and create an environment where women and girls are equal and treated with respect and dignity in all aspects of society is at the core of the BCSJI.

For these reasons, the BCSJI has proudly endorsed The Skin I’m In Curriculum by Sharon G. Flake, based on her 1999 Coretta Scott King John Steptoe Award winning novel of the same name.

My Brooklyn is a virtual learning academy that provides The Skin I’m In curriculum, which teaches self-esteem, awareness, empowerment and self-worth, in e-learning format. It may be implemented as a stand-alone project or integrated within existing programs targeting young girls. My Brooklyn is a model program that will help arm young girls with the character-building skills to achieve empowerment and overcome those challenges to their self-esteem. Every girl, like Brooklyn, should be provided the opportunities to reach her full potential.
