ATTORNEY BENJAMIN CRUMP SOCIAL JUSTICE INSTITUTE

Disproportionate Minority Contact with Police Initiative

dd23

The goal of the Disproportionate Minority Contact with Police Initiative (DMC) is to eliminate the overrepresentation of youth of color in the juvenile justice system by advocating strategies for policy changes, education programs, funding and technical assistance at the local and state levels. Modeled after the Pennsylvania DMC and the U.S. Department of Juvenile Justice, the DMC is a training program for officers relating to youth development and culture. It includes a formal virtual curriculum for police officers in urban settings combined with community forums that bring together law enforcement and youth (ages 16 and over). The DMC provides an excellent opportunity for both parties to be heard and to consider each other’s views without endorsing either side as completely right or wrong.
